The Rolandinghi were one of the most robust and powerful family clans, deeply rooted in the Upper Serchio Valley and at the same time very active in the political life of the city of Lucca. Already in the twelfth century they possessed a small neighbourhood within the city, mentioned in sources by the term “Curtis Rolandinga” or “Court of Rolandinga”, a name perpetuated by the church of Santa Maria “Cortorlandini”.
Starting from Barga, one of the main localities possessed by the clan, continue past many properties once belonging to the nobles until you reach the Fort of Vergemoli, a fortress whose construction bears witness to one of the last efforts of the Rolandinghi to defend its autonomy.
